The Center for Families in Transition (CFIT) is a private practice that provides mental health services to deaf, hard-of-hearing and hearing individuals and families.  It is located in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland and accepts a variety of major health insurances including medicare and medicaid.

Addiction recovery services are provided by ASL fluent provider, Laura Pyles, LCSW-C who is a certified alcohol and drug counselor.  In addition, mental health services are also provided.  Interpreters are provided for psychiatric appointments, doctor’s evaluations, group meetings, staff meetings, clinic meetings, NA and AA meetings.

Services routinely are available to deaf persons:  outpatient services, day treatment, supported living, vocational training, and emergency services.  For all medication management appointments with our staff psychiatrist, we will provide an interpreter. For any family sessions we will provide an interpreter if needed.

The Clinic for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a specialty program in child psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.  Services include individual and family psychotherapy with a licensed clinician who is fluent in ASL and sensitive to the needs of members of the deaf community. Medication management and the other services are also available with the support of a certified interpreter.
